This was my first experience with a HG Unicorn. It’s fairly easy build with minimal seamlines, but there are a couple of areas that need masking for accuracy.

In terms of accessories, this kit comes with pretty much every Unicorn attachment ever (sans the Full Armor backpack and the bazooka). You get the Armed Armor XC, DE, BS, VN, a beam rifle, beam javelin, and a standard shield. There are also quite a few leftover parts, enough to build a standard Destroy mode Unicorn. You also get the VN closed fist and Banshee V-fin allowing you to customize the kit even further.

While the kit looks kinda great standing up, the legs of the Unicorn don’t really bend that much which limits dynamic poses a bit. The Armed Armor BS also tends to collide with the XC when moving the arm, and needs some parts swapping and removal of the hand in order to open up.

I also had a pretty poor experience with the “rat-tail” stabilizers on the DE’s, so they were disconnected for the action poses.

Painting

The top of the hips have internals that need to be painted, the back of the V-fin should be white, and the front of the Armed Armor XC need to be painted blue.

While the boxart pictures the Javelin as grey, the tips are white on the MG/lineart, so I masked those off too. The indents also are the same blue colour as the psychoframe as well.

The insides of the Armed Armor BS also have these kind of hollow gaps. Since this build was for a strictly no modification challenge, I painted it metallic blue so it kinda blends in more.

The psycoframe was also coated with SMS UV Reactive Blue, I took many pictures with and without UV lighting to be combined at a later date.

White – Grey FS(??) base coat, followed by Mr Color GX White for highlights

Blue – Blue (70%) + Purple (30%) and a bit of fluorescent pink base coat. White added for highlights

Grey – German Grey (100%), White added for highlights

Metallic Blue – Black base coat, followed by SMS Pearl Blueberry

Frame Grey – Black base coat, followed by light coat of SMS Stainless steel

Not really a fan of Unicorn, but man if this kit don’t look mighty fine.

where did you get the decals for the kit?

    1. YJ

I used the Bandai decals for HG Unicorn Gundam (GD-76).

Another question, the kit comes with a shield, but I have no clue how the shield would be integrated to the gundam? The instructions show how to put the shield together, but doesn’t show how it’s attached to the gundam. Any help?

There is a T (or Y shaped) adapter piece that hooks onto the backpack and the 2 shields connect into the end of this piece.

Oh I already got the two shieds that’s attached to the backpack already. I meant the extra 3rd shield that’s just sitting around. I was curious to see if he can also have one attached to his arm. Btw, thanks for providing these nicely detailed images. I’m using your photos as a decal guide. Again, really awesome awesome job!
