HG Nobell Gundam

I recently built this HG Nobell Gundam as a testbed for a review of some lacquer paints by E7. E7 have kinda positioned their paints as an alternative to Gaianotes, so I was quite interested in trying them out.

Painting

I’m mainly a Mr Color user and somewhat just getting into Gaianotes, and using the E7 paint felt comparable to both these brands in terms of durability, pigment density and smoothness. The E7 paint did feel quite a bit thicker out of the jar than Mr Color though, so you’ll have to be a bit more liberal with the thinner in order to get it to spray properly. Overall though I guess this translate to better value per bottle.

The E7 paints I used on this kit were:

B-02 Red Madder
B-08 Ultra Blue
B-11 Ultramarine (Purple)
B-14 Light Grey Cold

XL-03 Clear Gloss
XL-04 Gloss White

White – Base coat Light Grey Cold, followed by White for highlight

Red – Red Madder base coat, a bit of white and yellow added for highlights

Blue – Ultra Blue (80%) + Ultramarine (20%) + bit of Mr Color Fluro Pink

Frame – Gaianotes Black, followed by light coat of SMS Stainless Steel

Yellow – Base coat Orange (Mr Color), followed by starter white, light coat of Orange Yellow (70%) + Yellow (30%). White and yellow added for highlights.

Ideally I wish I could’ve finished the entire kit with just E7 paints, but I wasn’t provided with the Orange/Yellows. Anwyay this proved to be a good test, because I actually mixed some Mr Color fluro pink into the blue and Mr Color Yellow into the Red with no ill side effects. Overall I was quite happy with the end result and would definately use again in the future.

If you’re in Australia (Melbourne for now) and interested in trying these paints out, you can purchase them at Anaheim Electronics Workshop.
