MG Blitz Gundam – Completed

blitz_banner_5

Wow it’s been five months already? I finished this kit way back in May 2014, before the Duel, but due to breaking a part, other life stuff and procrastinating it’s been on hold. Now that the Buster Gundam is finished, I’m finally able to post this kit in it’s glory.

Out of all the five GAT Gundams, the Blitz is the most stylish of them all. The curves and the black colour scheme give it that stealth assassin kinda look, almost as if it were the long lost brother of the Deathscythe from Wing. This does put it at odds against the rest of SEED kits though, because it’s really only got its good looks to rely on, and no other super flashy gimmicks.

Construction

This kit only has one seam line (one set anyway) to speak of, and they are the ones on the Glepnir hook. If you’re intending to paint your Blitz, I highly recommend you fix these – they caused me quite a bit of grief after finishing the kit and is one of the reason why I’m finally posting this a whole 5 months after I originally completed it.

Painting

Black – Black (100%) base coat, following by Black (90%) + White (10%) for shading

Red – Shine Red (70%) + Red Madder (30%) base coat, added white for highlights

Yellow – Orange (100%) base coat, starter white technique, followed by light coat of Orange Yellow (80%) + Yellow (20%). White is added for final highlights.

Purple – Purple (100%) base coat, Purple (80%) + White (15%) + Neutral Grey (5%) for highlights.

Inner frame/weapons grey – Neutral Grey (100%) followed by Neutral Grey (90%) + White (10%) for highlights.

Decals are from Samueldecal, as usual.

Posing and Gimmicks

The two main gimmicks of the kit are the Trikeros shield and the Glepnir anchor. While they both look pretty awesome, they are pretty hard to pose with – the shield is quite long and will often knock into the the rear thrusters of the suit, restricting movement.

The kit comes with a little wire you can attach to the Glepnir and pose it launching away. The problem is that this wire isn’t particularly strong, and unless you bend it in the correct way, or support the Glepnir with a stand, chances are it will start to sag after a while.

Summary

+ Stylish design, but you’ll either love it or hate it
+ Glepnir looks cool…

– …but that wire isn’t really strong enough to hold it.
– The shield is a bit clunky to pose with
– Feels a bit plain in terms of extras compared to the other SEED kits
– Horrid seam lines on the Glepnir
