Gears of War 3 Limited Edition Unboxing

It’s been a while since I’ve done an unboxing, but it’s September 20th and that means it’s time to kick off the mega gaming season with an unboxing of the Limited Edition of Gears of War 3!

The Limited Edition includes:

Octus Award Box

  • The display case for the Octus Service Medal bestowed upon Major Adam Fenix, father of Marcus Fenix; the box contains Adam’s remaining personal effects gathered prior to his tragic death during the Battle of Ephyra; a sentimental keepsake belonging to Marcus is also included.

Octus Service Medal

  • A zinc-alloy replica of the cog-shaped medal awarded to Adam Fenix in recognition of his work on the Hammer of Dawn.
  • Dimensions: 77 mm (3 in.) x 10 mm (0.4 in.).

Adam Fenix Multiplayer Character

  • Each Octus Service Medal replica is engraved with a unique Xbox LIVE code that unlocks Adam Fenix as a playable character in multiplayer mode.

Fenix Family Mementos

  • Includes the “Last Will and Testament” of Adam Fenix, the initial Hammer of Dawn schematic, and other memorabilia.

Fabric COG Flag

  • Proud colors that once flew above the House of Sovereigns.

Back of the case.

Here’s a quick comparison in size between the Gears of War 2 LE and a normal DVD case. You can see that the Gears 3 LE is the biggest one of them all.

Here’s the medal box after sliding it out of the cardboard slipcase. It’s quite heavy and feels like it’s made out of a rubbery material.

Opening up the box, we can see that the DVD case isn’t a standard Xbox case, but is designed to look like a futuristic disc. And yes, that is the actual Gears of War 3 disc you can see there.

Inside the DVD case.

Apart from the manual and the 48Hr Xbox Live code, you also get some decals.

Under the game case is the COG flag, which isn’t really a flag and is more like a rather big napkin or hanky.

The rest of the documents/goodies are stashed inside the flag. You can find pictures and scans of them in the gallery below.

Finally, the medal is in a compartment inside the front cover of the box. It’s actually pretty heavy.

The back of the COG medal. And as you can see there’s actually an Xbox code engraved onto the medal, which unlocks Adam Fenix in multiplayer.

Anyway, that’s all for the Gears of War 3 Limited Unboxing. You can find scans and pictures of the documents included below.
