Metal Gear Solid HD Collection Limited Edition Unboxing

Earlier this month, the rest of the world finally received the goodness that is Metal Gear Solid HD Collection. And for waiting, we get a rather special Limited Edition, which according to Wikipedia, is actually pretty limited!

Apparently only 8000 PS3 and 5000 360 copies of this Limited Edition were made worldwide. Luckily for us in the land down under, some of our local retailers managed to get some copies in.

The Limited Edition includes:

  • Metel Gear Solid HD Collection game
  • Metal Gear Solid HD Collection Steelbook
  • A 248-page art book titled The Art of Metal Gear Solid featuring the works of Yoji Shinkawa
  • A Solid Snake T-Shirt

Back of the box

The box opens from the front.

The T-shirt comes nicely packed in a plastic bag.

Here's what the shirt looks like. It features Snake, not Big Boss since he wears the eyepatch over the right eye. Sorry for the wrinkles, I didn't have the iron handy!

Next up is the hardcover artbook, featuring the same image of Snake.

Inside you'll find familiar artwork by Yoji Shinkawa...

Some more samples...

I'll also mention that you'll see some of the illustrations used in some of the cutscenes of the games in this artbook, which is a nice touch.

Of course you also get a standard copy of the game, unsealed.

Finally, the steelbook, which shares the same trippy colour scheme as the box. The steelbook is also the same size as whatever version of the game you bought, so if you got the PS3 version, you get a Blu-ray sized case.

So there you go. A pretty nice Limited Edition, the artbook is amazing and it’s not that expensive to boot. Why aren’t all Collector’s Editions like this?
