MG Sinanju Stein ver.Ka

The Sinanju has been something I’ve been meaning to build for quite some time now. With the normal one being red and somewhat suited more to a glossy finish, it’s been relegated to the backlog for a rainy day when I feel like I’ve finally figured out how to deterministically paint red. Anyway when I got a request to do the Stein, I felt it was a good opportunity to build one.

I was pretty surprised at how big the mobile suit was, but at the same time that there wasn’t a crazy number of parts either. They were all just…big. The kit does feel like a bit of a brick when it was finally put together, and my other gripe with it are of course those dumb emotion manipulators which are a pain to sand and pose.

Anyway I had a tiny bit of trouble getting the balance between the off-white and white just right, in the end I feel that the shadows are slightly overdone due to the postshading.

Painting

White – Base coat of Mr Color 306 Grey FS, followed by Mr Color GX Cool White

Light Grey – Gaianotes Neutral Grey II, followed by Gaianotes Neutral Grey I + bit of white. After this I felt the shadow was not strong enough so I postshaded the edges slightly with Gaianotes Neutral Grey III and blended it back with Neutral Grey I.

Blue – Midnight blue + Bright Blue + Purple + bit of Red

Frame metallic 1 – Gaianotes Gunmetal

Frame metallic 2 – Gaianotes Starbright Duralumin

Thrusters – Gaianotes EX Black base coat, followed by light coat of SMS Stainless Steel
