MG Hyaku Shiki Crash

This kit was purchased from The Hangar Bay, shipping P-Bandai releases worldwide direct from Japan! If you’d like to support me, please check out their store and use code SAINTISM06 for 6% off your order.

So let’s start with the design. Lanky. The torso and limbs all got an extension, so the Crash stands kinda tall compared to the standard MG. Those who like FSS style mecha will probably find this appealing, for others it’s very hit-or-miss. You get some alternative kanji decals for the shoulders, I decided to be a bit different on my build and put the 破壊 ones on each shoulder. It literally translates to “destroy” (hakai) in Japanese if I’m not mistaken.

One of my major gripes with this kit is the eyes. The eyes are supposed to be blue and you only get waterslides for these, not the usual foils. I actually botched them by placing them just a bit too high on the visor, giving it a weird squinty eye. Great, we can just paint them in instead! … Right?

For some reason, they are molded in clear green on this kit. What the hell?! Why mold them in green when there aren’t even any other green parts on this kit?! This wouldn’t be a problem normally, but the eyes on the Hyaku Shiki are inset rather than raised edges, so you’re pretty foobared trying to paint them on normally. Thankfully I had a Hyaku Shiki 2.0 in my backlog I could steal the clear visor from that I could actually properly paint.

Aside from the eyes, the torso rotation suffers greatly as a result of the new parts, so some of the best poses are just out of reach for this guy. The pipes on the arms also make holding the beam rifle a bit awkward, and the size of the rifle itself causes the hand to sag a bit when using one hand. Other than that, everything else enjoys the same flexibility that the Hyaku Shiki 2.0 is capable of. The kit also comes with quite alot of unused parts from the Hyaku Shiki Kai and 2.0, as well as a spare clay bazooka.
