MG Duel Gundam WIP #2

Hey all! I’ve been busy working on my Duel Gundam lately. I’m actually a bit behind in writing WIPs as I’ve already done most of the painting, this post I’m going to be dealing with the blue and orange parts.

Left: Base coat of Gunze Bright blue as per the manual.

Right: I then add some white for highlights…though this blue is kinda looking a bit off for the Duel Gundam. I kinda prefer it to be darker so I’ll repaint it later.

 

Left: Base coat of Violet (90%) + Blue Gray (10%)

Right: I then add white for highlights. Here’s a before and after comparison.

 

Time for the orange parts. I start with a base coat of Orange (100%).

 

Using the starter white technique I shade using White leaving the edges.

 

Left: I then apply a light coat of Orange Yellow (95%) + Orange (5%)

Right: Finally I add some white for highlights.

 

End of round 1!

 

I’m also not quite happy with the colour of the Assault Shroud. Here’s a test on my old Strike Gundam. Somehow it’s quite pale…

 

Left: Time for round 2! I’m doing to repaint the blue parts. Here I start with a base coat of Gunze Blue (100%).

Right: Finally I add some white for highlights.

 

And here’s the repainted Assault Shroud parts. I can’t quite remember the combination I used for this mix. I was something like White + Bright Blue + Cobalt Blue + Blue Gray.

 

Though I still can’t say I’m happy with the colour! This time I think I put a bit too much Bright Blue, resulting in a somewhat Sky Blue tone of the armour.

I think this calls for a round 3, but I’ll save that for another post.
