It seems Sunrise will celebrate the 35th anniversary of Gundam with a bang, with Gundam UC wrapping up in May and announcing two new animation projects.

Gundam Reconguista in G

Tomino teased that he was working on a new anime series sometime last year, but it was confirmed yesterday that it will indeed be a Gundam series and is called Gundam Reconguista in G.

The series will apparently be set in the same universe as UC, but in a timeframe known as the Reguild Century. The main character is Beruri Zenamu, a pilot in the Capital Guard whose duty is to protect a space elevator. The series will premiere in fall 2014.

This will mark Tomino’s first involvement in any Gundam series since the Zeta movies back in 2006.

The character designer is Kenichi Yoshida, which explains why the characters look like they came out of Eureka 7. Also from the PV, I can say I don’t really like the mecha design, with the weird spike coming out of the side of the head. Then again I may change my mind when I see it in action, as I never liked the Exia’s design before watching 00.

Gundam: The Origin

While Gundam: The Origin was announced all the way back in 2011, the release date has finally been revealed to be in early 2015. The series covers the lives of Casval and Artesia (Char and Sayla), the formation of Zeon before the beginning of the One Year War.

We also finally get a first look at this upcoming 4-parter anime in the promo video.

    I was hoping for a 2nd season of Gundam Build Fighters.

    @Ahmed Sameer
    Yep definitely. Though the current plot has been rushed to hell and back already.

    That has to be THE most offbeat lead Gundam design since Turn-A!

    @Dancou-Maryuu
    And I think I might as well call the protagonist “Garagher Ranks,” ’cause he looks like a fusion of Garrod Ran and Banagher Links.

    Well this… Is a thing.

    I can see it put in a game with Turn A and Eureka 7 in it for hilarity.
