MG 00 Qan[T] WIP Part 2

Last time on my previous WIP post, I mentioned I was tempted to Windex the blue parts and start again. Well, here is the moment of truth:

Goodbye 4 hours of work…

In goes the Windex!

And we’re back to square one. I did this for two reasons. First was that the blue was not quite the right shade that I wanted, even though I gotta admit it looks pretty nice in that bowl shot above. But you can clearly see some parts are more shaded than others.

Secondly, some of the parts had a crappy surface after I primed them, and this was extremely apparent in some of the parts, like the chest pieces. I tried repainting/repairing these separately, however the colours didn’t match the rest of the other blue parts, so I ultimately decided to restart so I could re-sand the parts and paint them all again to get a uniform colour, this time closer to the shade I want.

Also previously I mentioned that this kit does not have alot of parts. Well fuck that, for a small box, there is a SHIT-TON of small fiddly parts for the internals. I’ve decided to paint all these before putting together the legs and arms etc, this is because of the several clear green parts that goes into the arms/legs and I’d rather not have to mask these. The result is a crap-ton of grey parts to paint.

Because I’m painting all the parts before putting them together, I’ve masked off the various joints so they don’t get too tight and break after painted. I’ve wrecked kits before where the joints became too tight and the plastic broke.

Next WIP I hope to have all these piece painted. The only remaining parts left are the red and yellow, however they are only about 15 pieces of those in total so they won’t take more than an hour or two to paint.
