The Jedi Knight Chronicles – Part 1

Where have I been the last month or so? Well playing The Old Republic of course. To keep interesting, I’ve decided to document my experience in a series of blog posts, start with this one.

Keep in mind that I’m writing this retrospectively, so I might be skimping out on some details, and I might be missing important screenshots due to in game bugs, but hey, what can you do?

I decide to play a Jedi Knight, stalwart defender of the Republic. Here’s the intro:

Meet Saintly, the Republic's newest padawan, fresh off the boat.

We start on Tython, where the Jedi have relocated to after getting their arses kicked off Coruscant when the Sith invaded. Of course there just has to be some domestic problems, with the local “Flesh Raiders” causing problems for the Jedi. And if you don’t know, here’s what they look like:

Yep, a bunch of derpy street sharks. Normally they’re not very intelligent, but somehow they’ve gotten themselves a whole lot of weapons and started wrecking shop. I don’t have screenshots of the starting area, but it turns out there’s a rogue Jedi who’s leading these guys. Naturally, you get to beat his ass down, but he decides to kill himself instead of getting captured.

After a few quests and some running:

We arrive at the Jedi Academy on Tython

Reporting to Master Satele, who seems so have put on some weight

"I searched the temple archives. This force-user you fought never received Jedi training."

Not Jedi? DUN DUN DUN

The old guy sitting at the table there is Master Orgus Din. He's so taken aback by my awesomeness that he decides to take me in personally as his Padawan. Our next mission, to investigate the not-Jedi and just who he was working for.

Some new threads and we're on our way again. Tython does have some nice scenery although the grass tends to kill my rig at times.

I take a detour off my quest and go hunting for Datacrons. Basically they are boxes you open to get a permanent stat boost to one of your attributes, and they can only be used once per character. Each planet usually has a few lying around and some require some serious platforming to get.

The Canyon where all the Flesh Raiders hang out

Taking on the Flesh Raiders

Eventually, I encounter a rather "special" Flesh Raider...

"Did you just call me Jedi?"

Not only does the guy have a lightsaber, but he can actually use the force. Sorry no pictures, was too busy killing him 😛

A bit off the track, but this level 34 guy was kind enough to run my through a Heroic area

Back to the main quest. It turns out a guy named Bengel Morr was training up the Flesh Raiders to use the force. The guy doesn't agree with how the Jedi has gone all soft on the Sith and has decided to destroy/rebuild a better Jedi Order. With miniskirts.

Taking on Bengel. I shall avenge you T7-01! After beating his ass down he concedes that...maybe...I might be the just the one that defeats the Sith. Yep.

Conveniently, we did battle at the base of the "Forge" where Padawans go to build their first lightsaber.

Getting into "the position"...

Though the Padawans putting it together is total crap, as the saber magically/dramatically assembles itself in midair...

Thundercats, HO

Not pictured, but right after the whole lightsaber magic show, I get attacked by a rather large beast thing guarding the temple. Even with my new toy, it's a pretty tough battle, I manage to win, but a rather strange glitch leaves me rolling on the ground :S

Testing out my lightsaber in the training grounds against some droids

One last meeting with Satele...

...and I'm officially a Jedi Knight!

I'm told to go to Coruscant, capital of the Republic for my next mission, so here's a last shot of me in front of the Academy, level 10 and ready to leave.

And awaaaaay we go

First stop though, is the Republic Fleet. Here I have to make an important choice, and that is, which Advanced class to take. I have choice of either a Jedi Guardian, the tanky defender, or a Sentinel, a dual wielding DPS machine. I'll reveal which one I go in the next episode.

Next time on Jedi Knight Chronicles, Coruscant
