Saber, King of Knights by Kotobukiya

Another figure which I picked up during my visit to Japan was this Saber by Kotobukiya (because you can never have enough Sabers in your collection).

This version titled “King of Knights” as per the box, features Saber in her trademark armour striking a stoic pose with her Excalibur while she powers up.

Even at 1/7 scale, her flared skirt makes makes her look quite large in person. She comes preattached to the base with some extra effect parts to attach, and of course, her Excalibur. There’s no peg or such for the sword, it simply gets sandwiched between her hands and the base, and it manages to stay there quite snugly.

On first impression, everything is exquisitely detailed. I really like the shades of blue and purple on her dress, and the metallic sheen on her armour is really well done. The only real thing which stops this figure from being perfect is her face, which comes off as bit flat and expressionless. She just looks so bored! The skin tone also feels a bit off and could’ve maybe used more shading to bring out some warmth in her skin.

Overall, she’ll still look pretty impressive in your display cabinet. Just don’t look at her too closely. If I had a choice again, at her pricepoint, I’d probably pick something else up.
