How well did Jigoku Hen sell in it’s first week?

srw_z3_front

Famitsu’s sales data is out, and unsurprisingly, 3rd Super Robot Wars Z Jigoku Hen takes the top spot. But did the game sell as well as you think?

#1 Dai-3-Ji Super Robot Wars Z: Jigoku-Hen (PS3) – 158,410
#2 Dai-3-Ji Super Robot Wars Z: Jigoku-Hen (PS Vita) – 125,048

While neither version sold as much as recent SRW games, the combined total actually did better than Hakai-Hen’s ~280,000.

Here are first week sales for previous games for reference, please note the lifetime sales figures are not up to date.

So, both values combined makes this the best selling game since Z1. Ok.

What are your impressions of Z3 so far? I was surprised to see the different map backgrounds were in 2D as well as a lack of a dual shock feature for the PS3 version I just got recently. I can’t help but feel the need to compare this with OG2nd and Z1, but maybe I just haven’t played far enough to really enjoy it.

I haven’t played much of the game, I’m about 7 stages in but here’s what I think so far:

+ Good variety so far in SR Point conditions
+ Great animations from new units
+ Custom BGM function is one of the greatest inclusions ever

    – Some of the animations are pretty much copypasta straight from Z2
    – Can’t use the analogue stick to move around the map
    – Some pauses when tag units go to assist

The 2D map is a bit disappointing, but given the current gaming trends and economy, I’d say that it’s not really worth their effort to put it in.

    @YJ
You’re farther into the game than I am at this point. I’ll just have to keep slugging through the beginning stages. I have a couple SRW titles I just recently got to occupy my time until I get to that point. I’m glad to hear that there is more variation to the SR points– Z1 was horrible with them in that you needed to zerg rush almost every mission to get the point. I’ll also love to set my BGMs.

I personally didn’t care that much about the 2D maps. As long as the game is fun to play, I don’t really care.

Since I’ve just beaten the game, I can say that this is, IMO, the easiest game in the Z series. I managed to get all of the emblems and all the SR points in my first playtrough, when I needed two playtroughs to do the same for Z2 Saisei.

Besides that, I have the same positives as YJ. As for negatives, the removal of some series from previous games is kinda disappointing, and some of the attack animations lag a little bit (in the Vita version). The negatives aren’t that big of a deal, tough.

Now, the wait for Z3.2 begins for me (I still need to replay the game a couple of times to complete the scenario chart, tough).
