MG Wing Zero Custom: WIP Part 2

Short update on the build.

After much cutting, sanding and stabbing myself with a hobby knife in the process, most of the parts are now cut and sanded.

Everything was going according to plan until I started test building the wings. There is a main (gray) attachment that connects the wings to the main backpack, and the two wing halves go over it. This is of course arse, as it leaves a massive seam line going down the wing which is what we don’t want. The solution is to glue the wings together then sand the seam line off, but this then makes painting difficult, because the gray attachment is a different colour.

As with the shoulder mod, I tried cutting a hole in the attachment so I could insert it in after gluing it together. This failed miserably as I don’t have a mini saw, and pliers caused a crack. Not only that, but my original plan wouldn’t have worked anyway; the reduced grip meant the wings were all floppy and not posable anymore. I had to repair it by puttying up the cracks, then adding some glue in the hole to increase the grip.

Repairing the damage with putty

This now means I have to find some alternate way to paint the wings. After much thinking, I decided I would go for the masking method, which means painting the gray piece first, masking it up, then gluing the wings over it. Not the most elegant approach since it adds an extra step in the painting process, but I can’t find any other builds out there that explain a better way or mod.

Twin Buster Rifles, still need to sand off the putty on one of them

Coming next week:

  • Painting of white armour and gray internal parts.
  • the infamous ‘Gundam Head’ mod
